< MIDI-Star

The MIDI-Star is a star-shaped MIDI controller that features 15 buttons, 5 rotary encoders with integrated push buttons, and a backlit LCD screen. From a design perspective, the MIDI-Star was conceived to be intuitive, playful, and visually appealing. We deliberately chose a retro, arcade-style aesthetic reminiscent of a children’s game; we wanted the instrument to be easy to use during a performance and that would spark curiosity about how it works.

This instrument was designed and built in collaboration with Inès David Cieutat with the support of the Ateneu de Fabricació de Gràcia who allowed us to use their space and tools to build the star-shaped wooden enclosure.

We’re currently working on developing the firmware and will be releasing it soon as an open-source project together with the source code and all the necessary files and instructions to build your own.
